Types of Evaluations

ADHD Evaluations are designed specifically to evaluate inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive symptoms, as well as memory and executive functioning, in order to determine if a diagnosis of ADHD is appropriate, and if so, what recommendations can be made to improve an individual’s functioning.  The assessment also includes information on other aspects of information processing and social-emotional functioning in order to rule out other causes for the inattentive/hyperactive symptoms.

Comprehensive Psychoeducational Evaluations are designed to fully examine an individual’s intellectual functioning, academic functioning, and information processing skills in order to gain a more complete understanding of the learner’s strengths and needs.  Depending on the specific areas of concern, diagnostic evaluations may include an assessment of learning disabilities, executive functioning, memory functions, language skills, attentional capacity, social and emotional functioning, and academic performance. Evaluations are also conducted for college students and adults who are in need of an evaluation of current abilities and functioning level, in order to determine whether accommodations for higher education, graduate examinations, or work life may be needed.

Educational Evaluations focus exclusively on an assessment of an individual’s academic strengths and weaknesses, and of current grade and age level performance in the major academic areas.  This evaluation is an assessment of current skill level, and does not provide information related to possible underling processing concerns or the possible presence of a learning disability.

Functional Behavior Assessment is a process that identifies specific target behavior, the purpose of the behavior and the factors that maintain the behavior. This assessment should be conducted for those who exhibit behavioral or emotional problems that are interfering with their educational or occupational progress or the progress of others. The FBA process leads to the development of intervention plans to teach acceptable alternative behavior.

Psychological Evaluations include clinical assessment and information gathering in the following areas: presenting problems, history of presenting problems, current functioning across domains, relevant cultural issues, previous assessments and interventions, psychiatric history, current medications, medical history, family history, developmental history, substance use, forensic and legal history, risk screen, goals for treatment and mental status examination. Following the completion of the psychological assessment, a treatment plan is developed. A standard treatment plan includes recommended actions to reduce and/or manage risk, recommendations regarding the need for follow up assessment/treatment and an outline of treatment objectives.
